10 Contiki Questions with Actors Drew Seeley & Amy Paffrath

DrewAmy1Taking a cue from Contiki suggesting a New Year’s celebration abroad, actor/singer Drew Seeley (known for his work on Disney’s “High School Musical”) and fellow actress/TV host (and Drew’s fiancee!) Amy Paffrath are headed to France for Contiki’s Paris New Years to ring in 2013 with style!

We asked them 10 Contiki Questions prior to their departure about their travel rituals, how excited they are to spend the first days of 2013 in Paris, and what’s next for the dynamic couple (such as their honeymoon plans!). Check it out!

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding! Give us a brief background on who you both are and why you’re excited to travel with Contiki

Amy: Thank you!!!  I’m an actress and TV Host most well known for hosting Jersey Shore After Hours on MTV.  I’m thrilled to travel with Contiki because for one, I love to travel and two; Contiki packs a lot in a little time.  Its what I like to call efficient travel.

Drew: Well I’m a coffee-mainlining, music-loving, adventure-seeking Canadian kid. I moved to Los Angeles in 2004 to pursue acting, and have had a pretty nice run so far!  Work has taken me to a few other countries, but I’m SO excited since finding out about Contiki because they go literally EVERYWHERE I’m still wanting to see.

As actors, TV hosts, and musicians, you must travel a lot for work! What are some of the destinations you have gone to as part of your Hollywood professions?

Amy: We have both been blessed to see lots of corners of the world thanks to our professions.  I’ve been to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, which was amazing, Venezuela, Mexico City, Tokyo, and Sao Paulo with Drew.  We love visiting new places.  Especially when it’s disguised as work!

Drew: I’ve shot a few movies back home in Canada, ‘The Shortcut’ in Regina, Saskatchewan, and ‘Another Cinderella Story’ and ‘Freshman Father,’ in Vancouver, BC. ‘High School Musical: The Concert’ was my favorite work/travel experience though, because we did a South American tour visiting Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, and Venezuela. The music, food, and culture down there was so vibrant, I didn’t want to leave.

What are some of your favorite destinations in the world?

DrewAmy2Amy: I’m a sucker for a good beach!  We went to Hawaii a few years back and just loved it.  The volcanoes, blue oceans, lush vegetation, just stunning.  I also love the history and charm of Europe.  So far I’ve been to Italy, German, Switzerland and Spain briefly.  I’m super excited to add France to that list.  Paris is going to be amazing.

Drew:  Amy and I went to Japan a few years ago and we stayed on a military base because I was part of a concert for the troops. That was a crazy 5 days. We’d just get lost on purpose, get off at random subway stops and walk around Tokyo. The city felt like it went on forever, I loved it.

You’re both traveling on Contiki’s Paris New Year’s trip. What are you most looking forward to?

Amy: I’m looking forward to seeing the city of lights during the most festive time of the year! I cant wait to sip some authentic French Champagne, see the Eiffel tower, ride bikes through the city, take a cruise down the Seine and hopefully get a tattoo to commemorate a new year at the world famous Tin Tin Tattoo.  We’ll see what we can fit in!  I’m a good time maximizer.

Drew: Well I’m marrying this gorgeous creature (Amy) in April, and I think Paris is about the most romantic place I can think of to spend New Years with the one you love. I’m looking forward to having a trip we will always remember. Looking forward to having some awesome crepes too :)

You’re getting married next year! Which destinations appeal to you for a honeymoon getaway?

Amy: We are so excited to tie the knot! We love traveling so much that our wedding is a destination.  Tropical and festive naturally.  For a honeymoon we are torn between a few places.  I could go somewhere adventurous and warm like Costa Rica or Thailand, somewhere totally chill like Fiji or Bora Bora or somewhere lively and exciting like Barcelona or Rio! We are all over the map, literally! Help us decide!

Drew: Honestly, browsing through Contiki’s travel brochure gave me more ideas than I know what to do with. It’s hard to narrow it down!! I think we’re on the same page about Spain and Greece though, so maybe one of those. Or both!!

Do you have any upcoming projects that require you to travel? Tell us more about what’s coming up.

Amy: At the moment both of us are staying put in LA.  Pilot season is coming up so we need to be in town auditioning.  I have my spokes model duties for Sibu Beauty which take me to Toronto every few weeks.  I love that city.  I’ve been going there every month for over 2 years now.  I have my routine when I’m there.  I’m like George Clooney in Up in the Air.

Drew: I’ve got a few movies coming out this year ‘Yellow Day’ and ‘Lovestruck,’ so who knows, maybe there will be a film fest to attend or something! Working on some new music too, so I’ll probably do some shows and travel around that before the end of the year.

Why do you think it is important for young people to travel the world?

Amy: I think everyone should travel and open their eyes to new experiences, people and places, no matter if you are young or old!  Traveling allows you to see beyond the confines of your own neighborhood.  You get to see how other cultures live which in turn allows you to appreciate what you love about home but also learn new things.  We can connect to each other better when we understand that our way of doing things is not the only way.

Drew:  I don’t think Americans travel enough, we don’t like to take time away from work. But seeing the world isn’t a waste of time, it’s not procrastination. There will always be excuses NOT to just go and do it, and the longer we wait the harder it will be for most of us to get away.  So I say carpe diem, see the world, get some perspective, it will only enrich your experience as a human being.

What are some items you must have in your carry-on bag for those long flights?

Amy: I HAVE to have a dense moisturizer to keep my skin hydrated.  My ipad, headphones, an eye mask, chapstick, and my pillow pet.  That’s all I really need!

Drew: Laptop, DVDs, some good books, and a translation book for when we get there. So I can say ‘How did I end up in these bushes’ or ‘Where’s my wallet’  :)

Do you have any favorite travel rituals? Do you collect any souvenirs while on the road?

Amy: We are big eaters.  We like to experience a new city through tastes and flavors.  We do a lot of dining.  Indulging in the local cuisine.  We are big coffee drinkers so we like to buy travel mugs from the places we go.  I also like to buy clothes, jewelry or a nice bag while I’m traveling.  I got a beautiful leather bag in Italy, these gorgeous earrings in Mexico, a bathing suit in Brazil, just fun pieces that remind me of the places of been.

Drew:  I collect shot glasses, coffee thermoses, hotel key cards, and post cards.  I love getting up early and seeing a city when it’s just getting revved up.

What destinations do you hope to travel to in 2013?

DrewAmy4Amy: We ware kicking off 2013 in style in the city of love, Paris!  We know are going to Australia in February for the Quicksilver Pro surfing competition which will be amazing and then our wedding in April!  Our honeymoon is TBD but wherever we go it will magical I’m sure.  I’d love to do Peru, Denmark, honestly, anywhere! I love seeing the world.  Anywhere I haven’t been before preferably.  But my bags are packed and ready to go wherever the wind takes me!

Drew:  Amy and I have plans to visit Australia this year, the Gold Coast, so very psyched about that.  Also, I’ve gotta figure out my bachelor party so I may be hopping on another Contiki trip VERY soon!  What happens on Contiki, stays on Contiki right? Or is that just Vegas?
